Brother Tyler-Banks is proud graduate from FAMU and has a
background in chemistry and mathematics. With his exceptional
knowledge, he made it his goal to get youths more interested in the science
and math subjects. Brother Tyler-Banks believes that, “there are not
enough minorities in the scientific fields and [he does not] want our people
to feel that it is not an attainable goal if they would like to be an engineer,
chemist, biologist or any other profession dealing with the physical
sciences.” As a result, Tyler-Banks offers a little tutorial program to mainly
high school students (mostly minority students) focusing on the sciences
and math leading up to calculus.
Kappa Men are notorious for their charm, appeal, and intellect. Brother
Tyler-Banks uses these Kappa traits to entice his students to learn more
effectively. He will usually ask a student to bring a friend that he or she
knows that is having some difficulty in the subject and he will tutor them
both. “I ask this mainly so the students won’t get bored and we can have
more interactive activity during the tutoring session. I'll usually ask them to
meet me at a public library for a session or FIU's library.” He sometimes
takes his students to FIU's library so they can get a taste of what college life
is like and to see how students work and study in a collegiate setting. His
study sessions are held two times a week and may last from about one to
two hours on weekdays. On weekends sessions can last longer but
appointments must be made at least two weeks in advance.
Brother Tyler-Banks’ devotion to community service is just one of many
shining example of what true Kappa Men are really about – Achievement
in Every Field of Human Endeavor

Richmond-Perrine Alumni Keeps Their Community
Beautiful
The members of the Richmond-Perrine Alumni Chapter gladly fulfilled one
of the key objectives of Kappa Alpha Psi - "inspiring service in the public
interest".
Perley Richardson led the chapter efforts and re-enforced a stronger
working relationship with the Miami-Dade County and the Richmond-
Perrine Alumni by setting up an Adopt-A-Road project in one of South
Miami’s neighborhoods.
The Kappa men of the Richmond-Perrine Alumni Chapter worked together
to help clean and preserve the beauty of a historically black neighborhood
in South Miami. They selflessly volunteered their time to help keep their
community beautiful and clean. Need less to say, Stanley Tompkins - the
Chapter Polemarch, Stephen Johnson - the Chapter Vice Polemarch, FL.
State Representative and Richmond-Perrine Alumni member Dwight
Bullard, and many more continued to set a positive example in our local
community.
